Vintage Boho Wedding Dreams

Hosting a styled shoot was on my “business bucket list” for 2024, I wanted to push myself to be creative and network with some of the very talented vendors we have in Iowa. When I first started dreaming about how this would look, my immediate thought was “Warm, boho” vibes.

Once I landed on the vibe for the shoot, I started looking into vendors in the area who were creative, women-owned small businesses whose work inspired the vision of the shoot. I first came across Borrow My Vintage out of West Branch, IA on Instagram and knew that I had to have them a part of this shoot, their collection of decor is impressive! Next, I looked into floral and came across Parrott Floral Co. out of Cedar Rapids and was blown away by Cassie’s work on Instagram and added them to the vendor lineup. Now I needed a venue space, my vision for the space was open, clean, modern, and romantic. The first venue to come to mind was Walnut Ridge in Shellsburg, IA. This place is stunning and the owners are so incredibly great to work with. Now onto hair and makeup, I have been following New Beauty Aura on social media for a bit and they are one talented hair and makeup duo and I was very excited to add them to the vendor list. Now what styled shoot is complete without a yummy cake to cut into? A small women-owned bakery out of Cedar Falls, IA that I’ve been purchasing from and watching grow is Moo’s Bakery. Moos is an all-plant-based bakery that is opening up their first storefront later this year. This cake was spectacular and the owner; Maddie Palmersheim created a beautiful design. Last but certainly not least was our attire for our models. Our Bridal gown was from The Bridal Garden in Vinton, IA and this dress is an absolute showstopper! The Bridal Garden and Cameron’s And Henkle Creek collaborated to find a suit that paired with the dress to highlight the beauty of the gown and they did an amazing job!

Now that all the vendors were selected, I had the opportunity to go to West Branch and Cedar Rapids, IA to sit down with Tessa Sutton, owner of Borrow My Vintage, and Cassie Parrott owner of Parrott Floral Co. I toured Tessa’s warehouse and we hand-selected items for the shoot, this was such a fun process, and Tessa and her team did a beautiful job of pulling all the right pieces to style this shoot. Cassie and I then sat down in her cute little floral studio to talk about the types of floral pieces we’d like to see at the shoot. I gave Cassie complete and total creative freedom to work her magic and was blown away!

The day of the styled shoot arrived and I was so excited! I met up with one of the owners of Walnut Ridge Venue; Jennica Jordan and we planned out the layout of the shoot inside and outside of the venue. From there our models Mira and Josh Boyce arrived and hair and makeup began. I had previously sent over inspiration to Kelsey and Libby; owners of New Beauty Aura and they matched that inspiration to a T and even used some florals in our bride’s hair which was such a great touch and the makeup highlighted our bride’s natural beauty perfectly. As hair and makeup were happening Tessa and her team at Borrow My Vintage worked their magic to style the space and Cassie of Parrott Foral Co. followed suit by adding her floral touch.

I truly could not have made this styled shoot happen without the talent of the vendors who participated in this event, our models, and fellow wedding photographers who joined us in capturing some beautiful concepts for inspiration for couples planning their weddings.
